Civil engineering design in Auckland
A subdivision or a build on a tricky site rarely gets past Council on the survey alone. It needs civil engineering: stormwater, wastewater and earthworks, designed to standard and designed to be approved. When the engineering, the survey and the planning sit with one team, the drawings match the consent and the consent matches the ground, so you are not paying for a redesign because two firms did not talk. Trig designs for difficult sites often. A public stormwater main a long way off does not mean your project is dead in the water. It usually means it needs the right design.

Engineering that gets consent, not just drawn
A civil design is only useful if Council approves it. There is a difference between a set of drawings and a set of drawings that has been designed, from the start, to meet Council standard and be built as drawn.
That is what we design for. Done to standard the first time, so you are not paying for a redesign when Council comes back with a problem that could have been avoided.
Difficult sites are our normal
It may come as a surprise, but many engineers assume that if a public stormwater main is not nearby, a project is effectively dead in the water. They treat public infrastructure as a hard constraint rather than a baseline.
We do not. There are private and on-site ways to manage stormwater when a public connection is not available, and designing them properly is part of our normal work. A hard site is not automatically an undevelopable one. Often it just needs an engineer who has done it before.
How engineering fits the subdivision and consent
Civil engineering does not stand alone. It supports your subdivision and your resource consent, and it works best when all three are designed together.
Because we hold the survey, the planning and the engineering under one team, the levels the surveyor measured feed the earthworks, the earthworks feed the stormwater, and the whole package lines up when it reaches Council. That is the difference between one coordinated application and three separate ones that do not quite agree.

Do I need civil engineering for my subdivision?
Almost always, yes. New lots need services and often earthworks, and Council requires engineered designs for them. We handle that as part of the subdivision.
What is an overland flow path?
It is the route water takes across your site in heavy rain when the ground and drains are full. Building in one without allowing for it causes problems, so we design around it.
Can you design stormwater without a public main nearby?
Yes. There are on-site and private ways to manage stormwater, and designing them properly is routine work for us.
